Create the perfect environment to make a website

This is a not so common subject. But I think you have to spend some attention to it, especially if you're planning to buy a new computer.

First I'll discuss the screen. I recommend you to buy a 17 inch screen, because it is getting the standard. Higher is good too, but don't buy any 15 inch screens anymore! Use a 800x600 resolution, because it's the most used resolution and you prevent that users with a smaller resolution have to scroll horizontally.

Secondly the RAM memory. If you want to use heavy applications like PhotoShop or other graphic programs you have to buy 128 mb. Even if you don't want to use such applications it's recommended to buy 128 mb because it makes the PC lots faster. But 64 mb will do if you want to run some office applications or games. You can always add more later.

With the processor I'm not going to put a number on it. Because it develops so fast. Buy the newest processor because if you buy one that's two months on the market he will be much slower. You don't have to buy Intel processors, AMD will do the job also. By the way AMD is the cheapest.

Your hard disk now. I use my hard disk for over 1 year now and I have reached 4 GB. I would say 8 to 10 is enough, as long as you don't plan to put hundreds of games on your pc, than I would recommend 20 GB.

Other things: ask for a DVD-drive. It's the drive of the future, is as fast as a CD- drive and doesn't cost so much more. And of course a disk drive.

And some things you can buy later. Like a printer. Such a thing almost doesn't cost anything anymore if you look how important it is. And you will need some kind of back-up tool. I recommend a CD-writer, but ZIP and JAZZ are also good. Another thing that isn't really expensive anymore is a scanner. I use an AGFA snapscan at home and it does everything I expect it to do.

If you have all these things you have created an almost perfect environment for web designers and developers. All these things cost together no more than 28000 US dollars. It's a buy you only have to make once every 4 years. Scanners can go for 10 years and printers to up to 7 years.
